What are the obstacles faced by mobile artists working in Europe across countries with regard to social security insurance issues? And to what extent did the information systems for freelance artists in Europe improve over the last years?

These questions have been discussed in November 2016 at the Berliner Haus der Kulturverbände. National Committees of the International Association of Art (IAA) Europe, service points, European networks, social security organisations, the EU Commission, the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and further experts were present. A second part of the event focused on the exchange of current questions with regard to social security systems for visual artists on the national level.

IGBK published a documentation of the workshop. Please find it here: Social Security and Mobility - workshop documentation.pdf.

  • Exhibition Remuneration Right in Europe - symposium in Brussels

    Exhibition Remuneration_Logo

The issue of exhibition remuneration has been an important topic for artists' associations throughout Europe for years. The symposium "Exhibition Remuneration Right in Europe", which takes place on November 22, 2018 in Brussels, presents existing guidelines and campaigns. In addition, an exchange will take place on national and regional models that have already been successfully put into practice (e.g. the MU Agreement in Sweden or the so-called "Berlin Model").
Important goal of the symposium: to make policy and administration aware of the subject of exhibition remuneration at EU level and to draw attention to the "equity gap" that exists in the visual arts.

The symposium is organized by the IAA Europe, IGBK, the German collecting society VG Bild-Kunst, and the association European Visual Artists (EVA). Sabine Verheyen (MEP), Member of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament will act as patroness for the event. Further partners are Culture Action Europe and the German Initiative Ausstellungsvergütung.

The programme is availble here (pdf).

A broschure, collecting information on models, initiatives, and campaigns thoughout Europe and beyond will shortly be ready for download from here.

We are glad to announce that IAA Europe has now become a direct member of Culture Action Europe!

Culture Action Europe (CAE), based in Brussels, is the largest interdisciplinary forum for the non-governmental cultural sector in Europe. With more than 90 member organisations from both Western and Eastern Europe, CAE represents the interests of artists and cultural workers and acts as a mediator vis-a-vis the European political and administrative bodies.

On this occasion we would like to highlight CAE’s Reflection Paper “Belonging and Becoming: A cultural response to the White Paper on the Future of Europe and the accompanying reflection papers”, reflecting the voices of over 500 cultural players throughout Europe, in response to the European Commission’s published five scenarios on the future of the European Union.
