SYMPOSIUM IN BRUSSELS and DOCUMENTATION
The issue of exhibition remuneration has been an important topic for artists' associations and initiatives throughout Europe for years. The symposium "Exhibition Remuneration Right in Europe" took place on November 22, 2018, in Brussels. It presented existing guidelines and campaigns; in addition, an exchange took place on national and regional models that have already been successfully put into practice.
Important goal of the symposium: to make policy and administration aware of the subject of exhibition remuneration at EU level and to draw attention to the "equity gap" that exists in the visual arts.
Participants received an extensive brochure with inputs from 12 European countries as well as from the USA, Canada and Australia on national/regional regulations and campaigns for exhibition remuneration and exhibition fees. You can download it here (pdf).
The brochure will shortly be extended by a concise documentation of the symposium as well as by other country stories – stay posted!
The programme of the symposium is availble here (pdf).
The symposium was organized by the IAA Europe, IGBK, the German collecting society VG Bild-Kunst, and the association European Visual Artists (EVA). Sabine Verheyen (MEP), Member of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament acted as patroness for the event. Further partners were Culture Action Europe and the German Initiative Ausstellungsvergütung.
Bedri Baykam, President of IAA World, is going to hold a conference at UNESCO in Paris on May 23, 2018 (3.30 to 5 p). Topic of the conference will be the World Art Day, celebrated on April 15.

We are glad to announce that IAA Europe has now become a direct member of Culture Action Europe!
Culture Action Europe (CAE), based in Brussels, is the largest interdisciplinary forum for the non-governmental cultural sector in Europe. With more than 90 member organisations from both Western and Eastern Europe, CAE represents the interests of artists and cultural workers and acts as a mediator vis-a-vis the European political and administrative bodies.
On this occasion we would like to highlight CAE’s Reflection Paper “Belonging and Becoming: A cultural response to the White Paper on the Future of Europe and the accompanying reflection papers”, reflecting the voices of over 500 cultural players throughout Europe, in response to the European Commission’s published five scenarios on the future of the European Union.
Bedri Baykam, President of IAA International, gave a speech at the 39th UNESCO General Conference in Paris at November 6, 2017:
IAA is about world wide solidarity amongst artists! “The best way of contributing to peace in this tempestuous era of prejudices (…) and corruption is establishing creative dialogues through art…”!
